Serving the Lord with paint
Mason was on the merry-go-round with his best friend, Adam. Mason was wearing his
favorite green shirt, the one with the alligator on the back. Adam held on tightly to the bar as the merry-go-round spun faster and faster. When it slowed, he dizzily walked over to where Mason was sitting. He pointed to Mason’s sleeve.
“What happened to your shirt?”
Mason looked down at the dime-sized stain on his sleeve. He smiled.
“It’s paint!” Mason said happily.
He told Adam that a few weeks before he had been outside playing when he saw his dad carrying a half a dozen paint cans to his truck. Mason’s dad worked the night shift at the paper mill, and usually spent Saturday afternoons sleeping but that day he said he was going to the church to serve the Lord. Adam looked at his best friend with confusion.
“I thought you were supposed to serve the Lord on Sundays, and why does the Lord need so much paint?” Adam asked.
Mason giggled. He explained to his friend how his Dad was donating the paint to the church and he and some of the other guys were going to paint the church’s new nursery.
Mason quoted his dad’s favorite Bible verse.
Psalms 100:2
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Adam gave his friend another funny look; and asked what singing had to do with it?
“We sang while we painted!” Mason said excitedly.
Mason giggled harder as he watched the expression on his friends face. He told Adam
the same thing his dad had told him. Serving the Lord was more than just singing, and that
it was more than just a Sunday thing. Mason told Adam he had just as much fun painting that day with his dad as he did on any fishing trip they had been on before. And he didn’t mind the
singing; he actually enjoyed singing along with them; it made working fun. Adam looked up at Mason.
“Next time you and your dad serve the Lord, can I come? I’ll make sure to bring earplugs, since I know what you sound like when you are singing!”
They both laughed.
The Moral of the story…Unleashed:
Psalms 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Our desire should be to serve Jesus in everything we do. Whether it be working or spending time with loved ones; we should do everything for Him. We should rejoice in the freedom and love He has given us.
