God's rainy day
Grace was excited because tomorrow was her Birthday and she was going to the carnival.
This year was special because she was old enough to ride all the rides. That night after her parents prayed with her, she lay in bed thinking of all the fun the next day would hold. The next morning she woke up and ran to the window. It was raining. It wasn’t supposed to rain on her Birthday. It was supposed to be sunny and beautiful outside. Grace ran downstairs and found her mother in the kitchen. She was making pancakes, Grace’s favorite. A clap of thunder roared outside. She asked her mother if they were still going to the carnival. Her mother sat her down and explained the carnival was closed because of the rain. Grace cried and whined that it wasn’t fair because it was raining on her special day.
Grace’s mother explained God’s plans were not always our plans. Grace looked confused. Her mother got up and returned with a plate. She sat the plate in front of her daughter and asked her to describe what she saw. Grace counted out three round and fluffy pancakes and one large lumpy one. Grace’s mother then asked her to try a bite of each pancake. Grace bit into the first three and finally into the lumpy pancake. Her mother asked her which one tasted the best. Grace smiled, and pointed to the large, lumpy pancake. Her mother explained she wanted to make four perfect fluffy pancakes, but had run out of sugar for the last one. So, she added chocolate chips instead. The pancake was large and lumpy but tasted wonderful. Her mother then quoted one of her favorite scriptures.
Psalms
118:24: This is the day which the Lord hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
She explained that God was in control of everything and that he made each day different for a reason. Grace spent her birthday inside with her mother; they played board games and painted wonderful pictures of flowers and kittens; they baked Grace a beautiful chocolate cake with pink icing. It was the best birthday Grace could have ever imagined, and all because God decided to make it rain.
The Moral of the story…Unleashed:
Psalms 118:24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Every day is a gift, and things do
not always turn out like we plan, because we are not in control, God is! We must learn to rejoice in the good times, and in the not so good times.
